Green.Org sat down with Ali Safari, the founder of Farad.ai, to learn about they are using business as a tool in making a lasting positive impact on the future of our planet, the global economy, and local communities through innovation.
Tell us a little bit about you and your background:
Having trained as a nuclear engineer at Cambridge University and having worked at a leading renewable energy investment management firm, I have a 360 degree knowledge in the energy sector. I started Farad.ai with the belief to use business as a tool to leverage positive impact and change the world to be a better place. I am leading an outstanding team with expertise in tech, commercial and operations.
Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?
Nowadays, the effects of climate change are pretty severe: melting ice, rising seas, floods, decrease water quality and decrease water availability. The importance of fighting climate change and reaching Net Zero is evident. If nothing is done, there will be severe consequences for the entire world, in particular for the developing countries that rely even more on their natural environment conditions. There will be risks for humans and for the wildlife, as well as for the economy of most countries. In order to reach Net Zero, two main challenges have to be addressed: electrification and capital reallocation.
Firstly, electrification is needed to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions released to the atmosphere but it is hard to achieve because the current grid network operates blindly, with more than 95% of the low-voltage substation being non-metered. Secondly, capital needs to be reallocated by doing a ‘new-way’ of planning. However, most of the businesses do not know how to reallocate capital and can not change their old way of doing business.
What can the average person do to make a difference?
The average person has certainly many different ways to contribute to the fighting of climate change.
First, it is important to not waste food, being the food industry one of the most pollutants; second, energy usage has to be kept under control and energy waste should be avoided; third, transport methods should be carefully chosen and public services should be prioritized; fourth, people should invest responsibly and not prioritize those big corporations that invest in fossil fuels.
Lastly, it is important that people make their voices heard at the high levels of power. The above-mentioned are just a few ways in which people can help reach Net-Zero, the average person has definitely many more ways to save the planet.
Thank you Ali for sharing how you are using business as a tool to leverage positive impact.
