The Future of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology

Going Green had the chance to sit down with Janice Lin, the founder of Strategen, on a recent episode of the podcast. In the episode, Going Green host Dylan Welch learns more about Janice’s path to running a sustainable business, as well as her thoughts on the future of Hydrogen fuel cell technology. Be sure to check out the episode.

Let’s Get To Know Janice

In the consulting business, Janice has advised a diverse range of clients including renewable energy technology and service providers, large corporations diversifying into clean energy, utilities, investment funds and non-governmental organizations such as the World Bank. Through Association Management, Janice has distinguished herself as a leading clean energy change maker.

Industry You Work In & Company:

I am the CEO and Founder of Strategen, a professional services firm dedicated to decarbonizing energy systems. I am the co-founder of the California Energy Storage Alliance, a 90+ member trade association that build CA into the world’s largest energy storage market. In 2019, I founded and now serve as President to the Green Hydrogen Coalition, an educational non profit focused on launching green hydrogen projects at scale to achieve multi-sectoral decarbonization.

How did you get involved in the sustainable industry?

In my mid thirties, I decided my work needed meaning; I had a successful corporate strategy consulting background, MBA from Stanford. I joined a solar company that became SunPower. I then launched my own business in 2005 when my boss wouldnt allow me to work from home (I was a mother of two young kids) and my old boss was my first client.

What trends are you seeing in your industry?

Solar + Storage everywhere; stand alone solar to become increasingly rare. Grid decentralization. Renewables competing with fossil fuel generation on price, now the lowest cost option. EV’s as mobile fleets of energy storage resources. The next big thing: Green hydrogen- this tech will allow us to diversify fuel resources and decarbonize hard to electrify sectors such as aviation, shipping, mining and steel production.

What is one “Action Item” the viewers can take away from this conversation?

Be hopeful! We have the tools and technology to solve the climate problem. You can help by supporting clean energy industry development, buying an EV, and pursuing clean energy options from your utility. Market signals from consumers matter.

Telling A Story To Make A Difference

Janice is a firm believer in using story telling and digital media to educate people about renewable energy. Janice’s company Strategen has created a few short documentary style videos that we highly recommend checking out.

Game Changers

Policymakers, utility executives and energy storage pioneers discuss how energy storage is changing the face of the electric grid.

Strengthening The Grid

Threats to the power grid are global – cyber attacks, power outages and infrastructure challenges abound. Clean energy storage can increase reliability, safety and efficiency, while reducing emissions and costs. Hear leaders from the California State Senate, California ISO and the California Public Utilities Commission as well as Southern California Edison, IBEW, GE and AES discuss the role of clean energy storage in strengthening the grid.

Going Green wants to thank Janice for taking the time to share her experience working in Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology.
