Susan Stone is CEO at Ubiquitous Energy. Stone has been a longtime board member and investor at UE. Prior to joining the company, she was the founder and CEO of Sierra Wasatch Capital, an early stage venture capital firm. Stone managed early stage investing for Riverhorse Investments, Inc., worked at JPMorgan in New York, as well as Houlihan Lokey in Los Angeles. Susan, thank you for being here. Real quick, what is a fun fact about you?
I’m addicted to the mountains. I live near Lake Tahoe and get outside as often as I can.
Why do you think climate change and sustainability is such an important topic today?
Climate change has become impossible to ignore and that seems to be driving more urgency than ever to find solutions and reverse the crisis. I think that as extreme weather events increase in frequency, the number of people who feel personally impacted by climate change continues to rise.
What do you envision your industry looking like 10 years from now?
10 years from now I envision power producing glass to be standard for modern homes and commercial buildings. I expect increasingly efficient building materials to be adopted throughout our buildings. I also believe that microgrids, distributed solar and even devices with embedded renewable energy sources like transparent solar to share responsibility with the grid for the electricity that we use.
What can the average person do to make a difference?
Vote. At the ballot box and with your dollars. Support candidates whose climate change proposals have the impacts you want to see. With your buying behavior, prove that there is real demand for energy efficient and sustainable vehicles, buildings, and consumer goods.
