Everyday more evidence comes out from leading scientists and organizations about the effects climate change has on the world. We are all individual humans, and sometimes it seems like too large of a task to tackle, yet at the same time we all want to make a difference.
Here are a few ways you can get involved.
1. Vote
The most important thing we can do as individuals is to vote for politicians who want to enact laws and restrictions to prevent further damage. Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez are examples of two politicians who are very outspoken about making a difference in climate change.
On the other hand, President Trump and the GOP are actively spreading false information about climate change. President Trump recently stated “windmills cause cancer” without any evidence to backup these claims.
Voting is the most important thing individual people can do to help the environment.
2. Spend Money Wisely
Another way we can make a difference is where we spend our money. Research companies that actively work to be responsible about climate change. An example of this is buying solar panels, electric cars, and Pangaea. Here is a list of companies fighting Climate Change.
Also make sure to avoid spending money at companies that are against climate change. Read this article about companies putting out deceptive information that misrepresents climate change facts. Here is the Article.
3. Reduce Your Use Of Single Use Plastics
Be sure to purchase a reusable water bottle, and use reusable bags for shopping. At least 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans each year. That’s similar to emptying a garbage truck of plastic into an ocean every minute.
Check out EcoBags to buy your reusable bag.
4. Carpool & Public Transportation
Instead of driving by yourself to work everyday, try to find someone to carpool with. Not only will this help the environment, it also saves you money on gas. Plus, if you are able to find someone else to drive, you can read more GoingGreenShow articles!
5. Support Green Businesses
There are a lot of companies that are growing and working hard to make a difference in rising industries. Next time you make a major purchase like a car, try to buy one that is a hybrid or electric. If you can, get solar panels added to your roof. Support your local businesses in your towns that are eliminating plastic bags. Donate to local charities that are in favor of sustainability.
6. Educate Yourself
If you made it this far, good for you. There is an endless amount of information we can learn to help the cause. Go out and actively pursue videos and articles that help you gain awareness. The more I educate myself about sustainability the more I realize I don’t know.
