DuCard Vineyards is proud to announce its fourth annual Sipping for Saplings event. In partnership with Friends of the Rappahannock, DuCard is giving away a sapling when guests purchase a bottle of wine to take home from the tasting room. The program continues daily throughout the month of September.
Trees are one of nature’s best helpers: they are the earth’s most effective method of absorbing carbon pollution from cars, manufacturing, and other factors that contribute to global warming. Trees reduce soil erosion, run off and filter out harmful chemicals and nutrients which could pollute our rivers. By emitting oxygen, trees help improve the air quality, provide habitats for fish and wildlife of all kinds, provide shade to help keep our homes cool and reduce the energy we use to cool our homes as well as beautifying the community and adding to property values. This is the fourth year that DuCard Vineyards has made this commitment to the environment with this program.
According to Scott Elliff, Founder and President of DuCard Vineyards, “This is a continuing program at DuCard, consistent with our environmental commitment and leadership. Trees help with global warming, provide shade, absorb water runoff… and look great. Last fall we gave away nearly 2,000 trees through this unique program.”
Friends of the Rappahannock state the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality estimates we need to plant over 5 million trees to protect the Rappahannock river. The goal, set in 2020, is for 50,000 trees to be planted. “We are proud to be partnering with DuCard Vineyards on our tree planting initiative. In addition to the tree you are receiving for your own home, DuCard is supporting our community based efforts to plant trees in Madison County.”
DuCard has a long history of environmental leadership and sustainability, as a repeat winner of Virginia Green’s “Greenest Winery in Virginia.” From solar panels and electric car charging stations, to reclaimed wood, corn starch cups, lightweight wine bottles and cork recycling, DuCard has adopted a wide range of practices that support sustainable operations.
